Hope Plumbing hosted a night out with Girls’ Pint Out this past Wednesday. We picked up some growlers from Upland Brewery, served carry-out from Yats, and Jack gave a presentation on plumbing. Here are a couple of highlights from the discussion:

Hair: According to Jack, the majority of the clogged shower and tub drains are from long hair. While it’s not a big fix, clogged drains are an unnecessary cost. The best way to prevent this is to go to your local hardware store and pick up a drain protector. These handy little gadgets fit over your drain and prevent hair and other objects from going into your drain. Clean it out when you’re done showering and wash it off about once a month. It’ll save you a headache later.

Water shutoff location: Knowing where your water shutoff is is one of the most valuable pieces of information you can have. In the unfortunate event of a plumbing emergency, knowing where your shutoff is and being able to turn off the flow of water to your home could ultimately save you thousands of dollars in damages. If you don’t know where your shutoff is, give Hope Plumbing a call and they’ll help you find it.

Food goes in the trash: Many of us are used to disposing of food in our sink thanks to garbage disposal. While your garbage disposal is capable of chopping up small food items, you should scrape your waste into a trash can. Doing this will prevent unnecessary clogs.

Overall, everyone had a great time and walked away with at least one helpful tip for plumbing maintenance and prevention. Plus: beer.
